From the Desk of Archdeacon Glen Miller
Hello,
The words of 1 Corinthians 13 will be read during this week’s service and so I’ve been meditating on these words as well as the other readings as I prepare a sermon to share. When reading these words I am always drawn to the short definition of love – what it is and what it isn’t – that St. Paul provides his readers. I have often thought about these things and tried to allow God to shape my life around them. Let me remind you of what it says:
“Love is patient, love is kind, love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.” (1 Cor 13:4-7)
Whenever I compare my own life to this definition I find myself not measuring up but I rejoice that with God’s Holy Spirit I can continue to grow toward this goal and be forgiven the errors of my ways. Love, St. Paul says, is the more excellent way and I pray that we will all continue to grow in this love – this love for God and for our neighbours – even as we continue to cope with various and changing restrictions.
