FAITH & PHYSICS: an intriguing presentation which will explore Christian faith in a scientific age, will be presented in Mindemoya by Dr. Robert Mann, professor of physics at the University of Waterloo.
Science and technology play an increasingly important role in our society. From cosmology to
cellphones, there is little in our lives that is not affected by some development in science. Alongside this we continue to see religion and faith exert major cultural influence around the world. Contrary to common perception, theology and science are not necessarily in conflict, but in fact have a number of common features. After reviewing these, modern examples from cosmology and quantum physics will show how science and theology can together lead to a deeper understanding of our place in the universe.
A summer resident of Mindemoya, Dr. Mann was chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Waterloo from 2001-2008. He is a past-President of the Canadian Association of Physicists and the Canadian Scientific and Christian Affiliation, and his research interests are in black holes, cosmology, particle physics, quantum foundations, quantum information, and the science/religion dialogue. He has received numerous Excellence in Teaching awards, and is committed to engaging and inspiring his audience. The presentation takes place on Tuesday, July 28th at 7:30 pm at St. Francis Anglican Church in Mindemoya. Everyone is welcome, freewill offering,
